Luke has been progressively getting better with each skating class he’s been in. He’s still a bit wobbly on the skates but as I’ve mentioned before, it is miles beyond where he used to be. Then this week, they threw in the ultimate challenge.
A puck. Hoooooo boy, everything changes when there’s a puck involved. All of a sudden skating gets a bit more complicated when you have to scoot one of those black, rubber discs around. That thing doesn’t always want to go where you are going, especially when there are other wobbly skaters trying to chase it as well.
He had a slow start to the practice today, but got more comfortable as it wore on. We’ve been working in the basement a bit with stick-handling so he knows what to do, it’s just a matter of his body doing what he wants it to. With time.
It’s funny to see him start the drill and then space out a little bit. This was 100% me (and is common for many kids based on my experience as a kid and my current observations). Sometimes the drills get SO boring, but then he snaps back in when the coach draws near. We’ll see how things progress.
Especially with that pesky puck sticking around all week.
